Environment Canada says you should be prepared for some intense weather as strong winds are predicted to sweep through the Kootenays on Wednesday.
The forecaster expects winds of 70 to 80 kilometres per hour, with gusts of up to 90 km/h.
The wind will likely pick up on Wednesday afternoon and ease off in the evening.
Environment Canada says the wind could lead to broken tree limbs and downed power lines.
Residents are advised to be cautious amid adverse weather.
“Damage to buildings, such as to roof shingles and windows, may occur. Loose objects may be tossed by the wind and cause injury or damage,” said Environment Canada officials.
“Motorists, especially in high profile vehicles, may expect hazardous driving conditions on highways subject to strong crosswinds.”
This wind warning is concurrent with a special weather alert for a severe storm that may hit the region.
“A vigorous cold front will cross the province today (Wednesday) bringing with it very strong winds aloft,” said Environment Canada.
“While most areas will see fairly strong wind gusts of 70 to 80 km/h, locally, wind gusts may reach 90 km/h, aided by thunderstorms or showers that help drag the very strong winds aloft down to the surface.”
