The Columbia Valley Rockies are happy with their start to the regular season after two wins over the weekend.
They defeated the Golden Rockets at home 3-2 in overtime and followed that up with a 4-3 win on the road against the Kimberley Dynamiters.
“Obviously, any time you get four points in division, against teams we play regularly you’re happy,” said head coach Tayler Sincennes.
“We carried leads into the third period. We kind of choked one up against Golden and took it to overtime, but I thought we did a really good job on the road in Kimberley which is a tough barn to play in.”
Although happy with the result he says the team needs to take fewer penalties.
“The guys executed really well in the third period and had to kill some penalties. It would be nice if we cleaned up our discipline a little bit and rein things in. I think we were shorthanded 13 times in two games.”
Sincennes says their goaltending was one of the standout performances in the opening weekend.
“I thought Jaiden Jakubowski who just got back played lights out. Both games I thought he played really well in net for us.”
The Rockies play the Chase Heat and Nelson Leafs next weekend.
