A series of FireSmart events are underway to help East Kootenay residents make their properties more fire-resilient.
A debris bin event is going on for North Hirtz Street residents in Elko until September 20, while a bin is also set up on the street to give a convenient location for residents to dispose of yard waste.
A chipping event is scheduled for Cedar Road residents in Wasa.
Debris can be left out for pickup until Sept. 29.
All Wasa residents can participate but must contact the local FireSmart representative before Sept. 23 as the chipping route is planned in advance. Chipping will take place on the 30th.
The final event is on Sept. 21 for Indian Beach Estates residents.
Volunteers will be working with neighbours to remove flammable vegetation from the neighbourhood from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
You’re asked to bring gloves and safety glasses and meet at the Marina parking lot.
