The Golden Rockets will try to come out strong early this season after a disastrous showing last year.
Last season the Rockets finished last in the KIJHL standings with an 8-31-3 record, which led to head coach Chuck Wight and the Rockets parting ways.
Jed Houseman was promoted to head coach and believes the team is in a better place.
“We’re pretty excited with what we’ve put together and I think we’ll be much more competitive.”
He said they brought in a lot of new players and those who are returning took their offseason training very seriously.
“There’s a lot of new blood coming in. We have probably nine or 10 guys returning. Lots of new recruits in there but lots of quality guys and guys who are right for the culture and what we’re trying to build,” Houseman added.
“The guys who are returning put in a lot of work this summer training and showed up to camp ready to go.”
The Rockets finished the preseason with a 2-2-2 record.
They will open the regular season on Sept. 20 on the road against the Columbia Valley Rockies.
