Cranbrook issues reminder on accepted recycling items

The City of Cranbrook is reminding residents about what’s allowed in curbside recycling bins to cut back on hazardous materials being discarded.

City staff say they’ve seen batteries, electronics, cell phones, empty fuel canisters, bear spray canisters, paint and cleaning products being placed in curbside bins.

“When these kinds of items are improperly discarded or thrown in the curbside recycling bins, this creates a very unsafe situation for both the public and for those working with this recycling material,” said project manager Katelyn Pocha.

“There are safe recycling options for most of these products.”

City staff said most of these types of items can be taken to either the Cranbrook transfer station or the Cranbrook bottle depot.
