Climate action and the energy transition will be a hot topic in the upcoming provincial election, and Energy Storage Canada hopes it’s election platform paper will make an impact.
The paper highlights six recommendations for immediate action that will unlock the full benefits energy storage has for B.C.’s electrical grid and economy, and ensures the province’s electricity remains renewable, reliable and affordable, by using a variety of energy storage technologies such as grid scale batteries, that can enhance our reservoir and transmission system.
“British Columbians are going to be asking candidates this election about climate action, economic development, and making sure life is affordable,” said Michelle Mungall, senior advisor, Energy Storage Canada.
“Affordability in BC is something that seems to always be missing, so we have to work really hard on keeping life affordable, and how we develop our electrical grid is critical to that.”
“We all pay bills every single month, so when we’re moving into an energy transition and modernizing our grid, we need to think about ways that we’re going to do that so that it remains affordable, and energy storage options have the ability to do that in terms of maximizing the use of those wires over our heads, but also maximizing the renewable energy that we all want in terms of addressing climate action.”
“Housing growth in British Columbia is in demand and it is putting pressure on the electrical grid. So, we need to think about innovative ways that we’re going meet that demand and while we keep life affordable and energy storage technologies absolutely are part of that solution.”
