With 13,824 total rides and over 40 thousand kilometres travelled, the City of Cranbrook is hailing the e-Scooter Pilot Program as a success.
According to data from Bird Canada, the average trip was about 2.9 km, compared to the national average of 2.5 per trip.
“Peak e-scooter rides happen between 2 p.m. and 10 p.m. with most rides originating downtown or at 2nd Street North and Victoria Avenue around Western Financial Place,” said city officials.
Project Manager Katelyn Pocha said residents have quickly adopted the e-scooter program.
“It’s such great news to see how the community has embraced e-Scooters in Cranbrook and have created such strong numbers in such a short time,” said Pocha.
“The usage data and positive community response are promising signs that this program is meeting its goals and shows how residents are integrating e-scooters into their daily routines, whether for errands or commuting between home and work.”
Cranbrook and Bird Canada are reminding residents to use the helmets provided or their own.
E-scooter riders can only use roadways or multipurpose pathways like Rotary Way and not sidewalks.
City officials say you should also be aware of where you leave e-scooters when you are done using them.
“Not leaving e-scooters in the middle of sidewalks, at street corners, in front of business doors and other public access points will make sure that everyone including those with mobility issues can move about safely and without difficulty,” said city officials.
Cranbrook’s e-scooter program is expected to remain available into the fall, weather permitting.
E-scooters will be available again in the spring of 2025.
