The Regional District of East Kootenay said the damage reports filled out by residents impacted by the Aug. 23 windstorm will help build their case to the province.
They are trying to get the storm to be deemed eligible for disaster financial assistance.
“I’m so grateful for everyone who took the time to fill out a damage report,” said regional information officer Loree Duczek.
“We’re using this information as part of our application to ask the province to have this event deemed as eligible for disaster financial assistance.”
She said the information in those reports really showcases the destruction that happened.
“A picture paints a thousand words and we had over 275 damage reports that were submitted and the words shared and the pictures provided by residents really paint a picture of what happened during that windstorm,” she added.
“It’s going to make our case much more visible, much more relatable and paint a clear picture of what happened.”
The EK Emergency Management team submitted the proposal to the province this week.
