Charity group arriving in Columbia Valley to assists in storm clean up

Christian Aid Ministries will be coming to the Columbia Valley this week to help residents clean up debris from the Aug. 23 windstorm.

“The East Kootenay Emergency Management program has been trying to find different resources that might be available as people continue to dig out and clean up after the wind storm on Aug. 23,” said regional information officer Loree Duczek.

“They will be arriving in the Columbia Valley this week and they are just going to do whatever they can to help people with a particular focus on those vulnerable individuals who may be requiring assistance and don’t have the tools or means to help clean up their yards.”

The organization isn’t able to help with tree falling but will focus on cleaning up debris.

“We’ve heard from many people whose insurance company came and fell trees that were leaning on their homes or structures, but then left the trees laying in their yards,” said Duczek.

The team is expected to arrive on Sept. 5.
