The Fernie Ghostriders and Golden Rockets clash in the first Eddie Mountain Division matchup of the 2024/25 preseason.
Puck drop is at 7 p.m. at the Golden Arena.
New Ghostriders head coach and GM Chad Scharff says the players are ready to start playing games again.
“It’s been a big build-up here with the new staff coming in,” he added.
“We have a lot of returning players on our roster and I think the guys are excited to get going. We’ve made it through training camp and now on to exhibition season.”
Scharff said he’s already impressed with the team, despite only being hired as head coach this summer.
“When you come in as a coach and general manager you hope that there’s some talent and there definitely is, but above that, the thing that stands out the most for me is the type of players we have in terms of who they are as young men,” he said.
“They’ve been very mature about the transition in coaching and have been receptive to everything we’ve given them. I’m a big believer in having good people and I think we’re ahead of the game there.”
After tonight’s game in Golden, the two teams will meet again tomorrow for a match in Fernie.
Preseason runs until Sept. 17 and the regular season will begin on Sept. 20.
