The District of Sparwood firefighting fleet has gotten stronger with the addition of a new Rocky Mountain Phoenix fire engine.
Sparwood council approved the borrowing of $800,469.36 which will be paid back over five years.
The fire engine will replace one of their existing trucks which is nearing the end of its life.
Fire services director Sheldon Tennant said they haven’t made up their mind yet on what to do with the old vehicle.
“We’re currently looking at different options,” he said.
“We’ll either sell the old truck for a minimal return or possibly look at keeping it as a deployable truck and to make some money back during wildfire season.”
The district said there will be opportunities for local kids to take rides in the new engine sometime this fall.
