Kimberley city council has given three readings to a rezoning proposal that would allow for a three-unit housing development.
This is a new version of an earlier proposal for residential or short-term rental units on the same lot, which council voted down.
“The applicant has since revised their proposal and are now proposing a duplex building with a detached accessory building, and they’re limiting that to long-term residential rental,” said Troy Pollock, Manager of Planning.
The lot in question is at 331 Ritchie Street, which is currently used as a storage area.
If approved, the lot would be rezoned to allow for mixed commercial and residential space.
“Staff views this as a good fit for this property. It sits across from the commercial lots along Warren Avenue and is adjacent to the other residential lots along Ritchie Street,” said Pollock.
Since it is a residential housing proposal that fits within the official community plan guidelines, it will not be up for a public hearing.
With the first three readings passed, the rezoning proposal will be sent to the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure for approval.
It will then come back for official adoption by Kimberley city council at a future meeting.
