Ravenshead evacuation order downgraded

The evacuation order for nine properties in the Palliser/Cross River area has been downgraded to an alert.

The alert is in effect for Nipika Mountain Resort, Cross River Education and Retreat Centre, Cross River Forest Service Road, Cross River Canyon Recreation Site and four private properties.

“While this is great news, the fire remains active and residents should continue to follow updated information on the fire and remain prepared so that they are ready to leave if conditions worsen and an Order should need to be re-issued,” said RDEK information officer Loree Duczek.

The area restriction and Parks Canada area closure remain in place.

“We encourage all residents to ensure they continue to pay attention to the latest updates and any additional area closures or restrictions,” added Duczek.

The fire has grown to 8,601 hectares since being discovered on July 24.

An information line remains set up at 250-426-2188 or toll-free at 1-855-346-2188.
