Wake surfing provincials to hit the waves of Lake Koocanusa

Wake surfers from B.C. and Alberta will converge at Lake Kookanusa for the 2024 BC/AB Provincial Championships this weekend.

Competitions kick off at 7 a.m. on Saturday at Koocanusa Village.

“This is our second year hosting the Provincials in this area and we continue to focus on creating community and having fun, while supporting athletes of all levels” said Waterski and Wake Sport BC Wake Surf Committee member Loree Duczek.

“We have teamed up with Waterski and Wake Alberta this year to host a join Provincial Championship and as a result have some of the top riders from across BC and Alberta showcasing their talents tomorrow.”

Over 60 athletes will be taking part in the competition, including Duczek’s sons, one of whom won silver and gold medals at this year’s BC Summer Games.

The event will be open to spectators, with ride streams, a food truck and games throughout the day.

“Take a little venture out to Koocanusa Village,” said Duczek.

“Even if you aren’t riding, we welcome you to come on down, check out the action and support some of the best riders in B.C. and Alberta.”
