Cranbrook council mulls over RV development proposals

The City of Cranbrook has rejected an RV park proposal while giving first reading to another.

First reading was given to a proposal that would turn the parcel located at 2340 34th Avenue North into an RV park.

The 47 acres of land is adjacent to the Rocky Pine RV Park and Councilor Wes Graham said the lot would be tough for regular housing.

“It is a harder piece of land to develop,” he said.

“We could say we want to save it for housing but it may be 15 or 20 years before it’s economical to do anything on it. I think this is a way to meet some immediate needs, while also providing some more RV spots.”

The proposal council rejected would have been at 2705 Echo Field Road.

Councillors agreed that there would be a number of better housing options for that land.

“The previous one was an expansion of an area that has a track record,” Graham added.

“I think this is a more prime area for housing and there is definitely better usage.”

The city’s housing strategy determined that RV parks are not a suitable housing solution for Cranbrook.
