Motorcyclist killed in collision with a bear in Kootenay National Park

A motorcyclist was killed in a collision with a bear on Sunday afternoon, August 4, in Kootenay National Park.

The incident took place on Highway 93 near Settler’s Roads, north of Radium Hot Springs.

“It was a group of motorcyclists heading in the park, and it looks like a bear came across the highway, and they swerved to avoid the bear and ended up either potentially hitting or striking the bear,” Cpl. Jeff Witzke with Columbia Valley RCMP.

There were two occupants on the motorcycle when the collision occurred.
