Power upgrades installed at Fernie’s Annex Park

Power lines are being installed in Fernie’s Annex Park, allowing future events to have on-site electricity.

Mayor Nic Milligan said the park is an important community venue for live music, weddings and other events.

“Annex Park is a great venue for many things, and it’s the home of Wapiti Music Festival,” said Milligan. “This will reduce reliance on things like generators, which – as we saw last year- can be problematic.”

Milligan said events like the music festival are a big draw for the community, so providing infrastructure will help improve the experience.

“Power installation will support things beyond just their event, but also food vendors that set up in the area,” said Milligan.

“We now also have water in Annex Park, and with more amenities, it’s sort of a ‘build it and they will come’ sort of thing, so we will see what the future holds for the park.”

The upgrades involve extending an electrical like through the existing dike conduit to a kiosk in the park.

Wapiti Music Festival is set for August 9 and 10, with upgrades likely to be completed by then.
