Mount Morro fire closes Top of the World Provincial Park

The Top of the World Provincial Park has been closed to the public as the BC Wildfire Service monitors an out-of-control fire.

The lightning-caused fire has grown to 1,293 hectares since being discovered on July 17.

The fire is high up on Mount Morro in extremely steep terrain and is currently inaccessible to crews.

It’s displaying Rank 4 fire behaviour which is not safe for crews to work on directly.

In the meantime, crews are working with BC Parks to identify and protect park values, while developing attack strategies.

It’s the only out-of-control fire currently in the East Kootenay.

The fire that sparked near Sparwood is now being held and the blaze south of Moyie is under control.
