Cranbrook City council has adopted a zoning change to 2000 8th Street North to allow for a seniors housing development.
The proposed development will be a senior-specific 49-unit housing development.
The site is in a central area of the city with close proximity to grocery stores and the downtown core.
“It’s in a good location along a corridor and it’s targeting affordability for seniors,” said councillor Wes Graham.
“I can’t wait to see this break ground.”
Councillor Lynette Wray said it will help with housing availability as seniors decide to move into a smaller space.
“Those homes open up and are available to families or other folks who are looking for a house with a yard,” she said.
“It’s a double win when we see these developments come to fruition.”
The developer will need to come back to council with a final design to obtain a building permit.
