Three passengers were killed in a single-vehicle accident along Westside Road, near Panorama Drive in Wilmer.
Columbia Valley RCMP officials said the detachment responded to the call at around 10:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
First responders arrived to find a vehicle that had driven off the highway and down an embankment.
All but one of the vehicle’s occupants were killed in the crash.
“The driver was taken to hospital with what’s believed to be serious, non-life-threatening injuries, while three passengers were sadly pronounced deceased,” said RCMP spokesperson Cpl. James Grandy.
“Speed, along with intoxication are both believed to be a contributing factor.”
Police officials said the crash knocked out power lines, leading to an outage in the community.
An investigation is underway by Columbia Valley RCMP, BC Highway Patrol Collision Reconstructionist and the BC Coroners Service.
“RCMP offers their condolences to the families affected in this tragic incident,” said Columbia Valley RCMP.
