Cranbrook’s Katie Clarke has won the Princess Grace Cup at the 2024 Henley Royal Regatta.
The prestigious race takes place at Henley-on-Thames in the United Kingdom.
Clarke was representing Shawnigan Lake School in the Women’s Quad event.
“This result is extremely special to me. As a lot of people know I was trying to qualify for the Paris Olympics and unfortunately we came up just short last May,” she said.
“After that heartbreaking result, our group was pretty lost and looking for an event to set our sites on to close this chapter and begin our journey towards LA in 2028.”
The team dominated leading up to the final race, but the final was only won by three-quarters of a boat length.
“When we crossed the finish line it was pure elation for me to have won such a prestigious prize and close this chapter on such a high note,” Clarke added.
“It’s particularly special for me given that women have only been allowed to race at Henley since the early 2000s.”
Clarke’s team beat a mixed crew made up of rowers from Lausanne-Sports Aviron, Switzerland and fellow teammates from Shawnigan Lake School.
