A zoning amendment to add secondary suites to a lot at 1311 Wildwood Drive has been shot down by Sparwood Council.
The District of Sparwood received an application to amend the zoning bylaw to allow secondary suites in the two-family dwelling that is currently under construction.
Council was concerned about the impact the development would have on traffic and parking in the area.
Councillor Sam Atwal was in favour of the proposal and believes the pros outweigh the cons.
“We’ve been looking at three-plus years of zero per cent vacancy. There is obviously a need for housing,” he said.
“I’m not a huge fan of the lack of parking it will create but it’s dealing with one problem to solve another. It’s not a comfortable position but my view is that the need for housing supersedes the increase in traffic, noise and potential parking issues.”
It was defeated in a 3-2 vote.
