Elk Valley RCMP investigating Fernie business break-in

Police are on the lookout for a man they believe to be behind a smash-and-grab break-in at GearHub in Fernie.

Elk Valley RCMP officials say the break-in happened shortly before 3 a.m. on Thursday, July 4.

The suspect, who was wearing dark clothes and carrying a hammer, was caught on video surveillance.

“The suspect approached the front of the business, broke a large exterior window with the hammer, stole several items and was seen leaving in a dark-coloured newer style Dodge van,” said Elk Valley RCMP.

The man stole several bike parts and fled the scene.

Police said the damage plus stolen goods resulted in a loss of over $5,000.

The vehicle was equipped with black hubcaps and a white card in the front window.

The suspect was wearing dark clothes and some sort of face covering at the time of the theft.
