Cranbrook RCMP said multiple people were spotted on Amy Woodland Elementary School property throughout the night of Sunday morning’s fire.
Early Sunday morning, Cranbrook firefighters jumped into action to take down a fire in the school’s gymnasium.
Police have been investigating the cause of the blaze ever since and investigators believe evidence gathered from witnesses and CCTV footage points to suspicious origins.
According to RCMP officials, multiple people were seen near the school, with a group setting off fireworks on the property at about 10:45 p.m.
Video footage revealed three people near the school when the fire started.
“We are asking the public to take a look at the video and contact us if they are able to identify any of the individuals in the video,” said RCMP Spokesperson Cst. Katie Forgeron.
The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with more information can contact the Cranbrook detachment at 250-489-3471 or you can submit an anonymous tip to CrimeStoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
