Cranbrook’s Task Force on Homelessness adds evening info session

Cranbrook’s Task Force on Homelessness has added an evening information session in response to public requests.

The information sessions will focus on homelessness and other social issues in Cranbrook.

Both are set for Wednesday, June 26, with one scheduled for 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and the second has been added from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

“We have heard that residents requested an evening session in addition to the daytime town hall with the Mayor’s Task Force,” said Avery Hulbert, Member of the Mayor’s Task Force on Homelessness.

“Our volunteer task force members along with City representatives are pleased to offer both a daytime and evening session to share the recommendations created thus far and to receive any other solutions with Cranbrook residents.”

The meetings will be held in the sanctuary of the Dwelling Place, at 2324 2nd Street South. There is no need to RSVP, as the venue can hold up to 400 people.

“The members of the Mayor’s Task Force on Homelessness have spent several months listening and reviewing concerns and solutions raised by residents, businesses, unhoused and precariously housed individuals, and service providers in our community and are looking forward to sharing the recommendations with Cranbrook residents as to how we can collectively move forward to address and prevent homelessness in our community,” said Hulbert.

The task force has created a ‘Rules of Engagement’ document that must be followed by all attendees.

“Attendees who wish to speak must provide your name and address, and if you come forward with a problem you are asked to also bring forward a solution,” said city officials.

“The intent of the rules is to help ensure the sessions can be most effective in addressing issues, making decisions, and ensuring everyone attending can speak and be heard.”

Copies of these rules and an FAQ documents will be available for those attending either meeting.
