BC Conservative Party Leader John Rustad was in Cranbrook over the weekend to meet with residents during Spirit of the Rockies Fest.
“We’re going around and engaging with people in all corners of this province,” said Rustad.
“Of course, we have the festivities this weekend, so it was convenient to come here and participate in those and support our candidate, Pete Davis.”
Rustad feels confident in his party’s momentum in recent weeks.
“This is really a renewal of a party that has been around for a long time. It’s satisfying to see people coming in and being a part of this,” said Rustad.
Rustad hopes the BC Conservatives can take down the NDP in the upcoming provincial election.
“There are some tremendous issues around the province. when you look at David Eby and the radical approaches he’s taking with the NDP government, we need to bring a stop to that,” said Rustad.
Rustad said the NDP’s approach to the toxic drug crisis is ineffective.
“Decriminalization has been an absolute disaster in this province,” said Rustad.
“There’s no such thing as a safe supply, these drugs are very dangerous.”
Rustad also takes issue with the province’s public school system.
“[The NDP is] taking away parent’s rights and not allowing them to have a say in what’s going on in the education system,” said Rustad.
This is in reference to the Conservatives’ plan to repeal SOGI123 policies in schools, which teaches inclusion regarding people in the 2SLGBTQ+ community.
“There are many, many things that David Eby has been approaching that are very much on a socialist and authoritarian bent, and in my perspective, it’s very radical in terms of the damage they’re doing to British Columbia,” said Rustad.
The provincial election is set to go ahead this October.
