Radium OCP feedback coming in strong

The Village of Radium Hot Spring has been getting a lot of responses from the public as the community looks to redo its official community plan.

“The Radium official community plan just feels like it’s got the energy that it needs right now,” said Mayor Mike Gray.

“This should be a transformational OCP for us, it isn’t just an update. We are looking at this to be an inspirational document that takes our village forward for the next two decades.”

He said they’ve gotten a lot of good feedback from the public, but he doesn’t want to share his thoughts until later.

“There’s not one that I want to push forward right now,” he added.

“I want to see what the residents have to say unprompted.”

A new OCP was a long time coming for Radium, especially with the growth the community has seen recently.

“We’ve had tremendous growth going from 776 to 1,334 residents in one census period. It’s a time when Radium needs to do a little check to make sure we are doing this remarkable growth in a responsible way, in a smart way and in a planned way that fits our community’s needs.”

And they are hoping to have the OCP done by the end of the year.

They plan on having this wrapped up by the end of 2024,” Gray said.

“It wouldn’t surprise me given the amount of feedback that our community has shown that this takes a little bit longer and we go into the first few months of 2025.”

He’s encouraging residents to keep giving feedback in the meantime.
