Cranbrook murder trial moves to Kamloops

The murder trial for Creston’s Mitchell Earl McIntyre will now take place in Kamloops, instead of Cranbrook.

McIntrye was charged with second-degree murder back in 2022, in which a July 2024 trial was scheduled in Cranbrook

McIntyre applied for a change of venue citing health concerns during a preliminary hearing last month.

The defence said McIntyre has serious health issues, including heart and kidney issues, high blood pressure, digestive issues, as well as chronic back pain and headaches.

The 64-year-old is currently in custody at the Kamloops Regional Correctional Centre and receives regular care in Kamloops.

They argued the travel of approximately nine hours by sheriff’s wagon was too much and that he didn’t have an adequate setup to appear in court online.

The judge agreed and the application was approved.

The trial is set to start on July 2 and run for four weeks. He will be tried by judge alone.
