Elkford is taking a new approach to its tourism sector with help from Destination BC and PacifiCan.
The District of Elkford is one of 11 small and rural communities across B.C. that got a hand in creating plans.
Destination BC officials said this initiative aimed to help grow the tourism sector in a way that respects local culture, supports businesses, and benefits residents.
This approach ensures tourism enhances community well-being for visitors and residents.
“Elkford is a wilderness destination with distinctive natural mountain landscapes, stunning vistas, and abundant wildlife,” said Jeremy Johnston, Elkford’s Director of Planning and Development Services.
“This new plan identifies opportunities to enhance our tourism offerings and provides a roadmap for strategic long-term destination development, helping us attract visitors and diversify our local economy.”
Destination BC said the Community Tourism Planning initiative was created to help communities develop their tourism sector in a way that works for their needs.
“The initiative assisted BC communities, particularly smaller and more rural ones, in developing a long-term vision for tourism and supporting the recovery and rebuilding of the tourism sector post-COVID. It also connected communities with experienced facilitators who led a collaborative planning process,” said Destination BC.
