Purcell Collegiate hosting Cranbrook open house

Purcell Collegiate will provide some updates and announcements about the upcoming school year at an open house on June 10, as Summit Hall from 7 p.m.

“We’re going to really dig into what it means to be an International Baccalaureate program,” said head of school and CEO Duncan MacLeod.

“It’s the only program East of the Okanagan and west of Calgary.”

Purcell Collegiate is an international boarding school focusing on sports and academics.

MacLeod said they also have some big news they will be announcing.

“Another big piece we are going to be announcing and exploring further as an opportunity for local students is our hockey academy,” he added.

“There is a lot happening and a lot we are excited to share.”

The school is still in the process of building its main campus at the Purcell golf course in Kimberley, where students will live and go to classes.

In the meantime, students will stay at St. Eugene, take classes at the College of the Rockies and do outdoor curriculum at the Kimberley Alpine Resort.

“We’re still working on building it and it’s hard in this post-covid climate to do anything with construction,” MacLeod said.

“We’ve been very fortunate to benefit from some great working relationships locally in terms of how we’ve been able to start the school despite those challenges.”

Purcell Collegiate has already filled a number of spaces for next school year with enrollments from Argentina, Hungary, the United States, China, Japan and Mexico.
