The City of Kimberley has negotiated and signed onto a new four-year agreement with the United Steelworkers Union Local 1-405.
City officials said this replaces the previous agreement which expired in Feb 29, 2024.
“Over the four-year agreement, all classifications of unionized employees will receive wage adjustments of 5.5 per cent, 4.5 per cent, 4.0 per cent, and 3 per cent,” said city staff.
“Other items of note include health spending and vacation improvements.”
Kimberley CAO Jim Hendricks said he’s glad they were able to work through collective agreement negotiations.
“The City of Kimberley extends its heartfelt appreciation to the United Steelworkers and all our employees for their dedication to Kimberley’s residents,” said Hendricks.
“This collective effort highlights our shared commitment to providing exceptional service and enhancing the quality of life in our vibrant community.”
Mayor Don McCormick said he recognizes the hard work the bargaining teams put into the agreement.
“On behalf of City Council, I’d like to extend my sincere thanks to the respective bargaining teams for their commitment to productive negotiations,” said McCormick.
“These increases reflect the inflationary challenges experienced by communities throughout BC and the rest of the country. It was important to balance fairness and affordability, and we believe this agreement reflects that.”
City officials said the agreement reaffirms the shared commitment to Kimberley’s residents.
