The Cranbrook RCMP is warning residents of the punishments for stunt driving.

Police received a call on May 14 about vehicles doing donuts at a parking lot in the 1500 block of Cranbrook Street North.

When officers arrived they found a Ford Escape drifting and driving at a high rate of speed near pedestrians and other vehicles.

A 17-year-old driver was issued a $368 fine for driving without due care and attention and his vehicle has been impounded for seven days.

“The RCMP has received many complaints about vehicles ‘spinning out’ and ‘rolling coal’ over the past month,” said constable Katie Forgeron.

“We wish to remind the motoring public that even if you are in a parking lot, the Motor Vehicle Act applies and the consequences can be costly.”
