The Kootenay Fun 5 in Cranbrook set a new record for runners with over 650 participants taking part in the fundraiser.
“We had about 660 runners today,” said organizer Trisha Reimer.
“It’s our ninth year and that’s been our highest attendance ever.”
She said it’s been great to see the community come out every year.
“We’re thankful that everyone is coming out and thankful about how the town has supported us and we are just really thrilled to host everybody,” she added.
The run raises funds for Kootenay Christian Academy, with all of the proceeds to go towards students items.
“In past years we’ve purchased laptops for students or sports equipment for students. Anything that goes above and beyond our regular costs and provides extra fun stuff for students.” she said.
The top male runner and fastest time overall went to 42-year-old Lucas Bransetter from Cranbrook. He finished the race with a time of 20:16.
“The hill is always a bit of a challenge but it went smooth and that downhill really picks you up and then it’s a nice flat steady course,” he said.
“I’m exhausted but good. I’m looking forward to seeing my kids cross.”
32-year-old Stephanie Sobczak led the women with a time of 21:03.
“My legs, my heart and my mind all aligned so it was a great race and I’m really happy with it.”
