Cranbrook rower prepping for final Olympic qualifier

Cranbrook rower Katie Clark will be travelling to Lucerne, Switzerland to take part in the 2024 World Rowing Final Olympic Regatta.

If her team places well, they will go on to compete in the Summer Olympics in Paris.

“This is the last chance for crews to book their tickets to Paris later on this Summer,” Clark said.

“I’ll be racing in the women’s quad where we have to come top two to advance to Paris.”

She thinks the team is well-built to compete at this level.

“Our crew has a really exciting mix of youth and experience with one of my teammates having gone to two Olympics already,” she added.

“When we qualify, racing at the Olympics will close her Olympic rowing career but be the start of mine, as well as my other two teammates.”

They weren’t able to get the job done last year, which made them reassess their plan.

“Last summer when we failed to qualify in Serbia it forced us to take a look at how we were training as well as how we approached racing,” Clark said.

“We’ve put in some really exciting work to change this and I can’t wait to go get the job done.”

And she’s proud to represent Cranrbook on the world stage.

“It’s a pleasure to bring my hometown of Cranbrook along with me on this journey,” she added.

“The countdown is getting close and I am so excited.”

The qualifier runs from May 19-21.
