BC United has announced their 2024 provincial election candidate for Columbia River-Revelstoke, Scott McInnis.
Scott McInnis will run for the seat in B.C.’s legislature, following two-term MLA Doug Clovechok.
Mr McInnis has been a resident of the riding for over a decade.
“Originally hailing from a small farming community in Ontario, McInnis has been a proud resident of Kimberley since 2010, where he and his wife Diana have built their home and raised their teenage son, Luke,” said BC United.
BC United said Mr McInnis is engaged in the education sector.
“As an educator for the past 15 years, McInnis’ dedication to fostering excellence in education and advocating for child care has been unwavering,” said party officials.
“His career, spanning both the public and independent school system, and as a member of the BCTF, has equipped him with a deep understanding of the challenges facing B.C.’s education system.”
Party leader Kevin Falcon said he’s glad to have Mr McInnis on their team.
“Scott’s unwavering commitment to education and child care will make him an important voice in BC United’s Team 2024 slate of candidates, and I know he will bring that commitment to all issues facing the residents of Columbia River-Revelstoke,” said BC United Leader Kevin Falcon.
“BC United continues to nominate candidates from a wide variety of backgrounds including health care, business and community advocacy, demonstrating to British Columbians that we are the only party ready to form government and hit the ground running on day one.”
McInnis said he’s eager for the opportunity to run in the election.
“I am truly humbled to have the opportunity to earn the support of our community and I look forward to bringing forward real solutions and new ideas to tackle the failing policies of the NDP,” said McInnis.
“BC United is the only party with the track record and ideas to fix the crises we are facing in health care, cost-of-living and crime — and I look forward to advocating for you each and every day.”
Mr McInnis will be running for the seat after MLA Doug Clovechok, also a member of BC United, announced that he will be retiring from politics at the end of his term.
“It has been an honour to serve the people of this wonderful riding, and I am delighted to see someone as committed and capable as Scott McInnis step up to continue this important work,” said Clovechok.
“I have no doubt Scott will be a strong advocate for our community, and we are lucky to have him stepping forward. I look forward to continuing to support Kevin Falcon and Scott McInnis through the next election.”
The 2024 BC Provincial Election campaign officially starts on Sept 21, with voting day set for Oct. 19.
