The Kimberley Dynamiters are hosting this year’s Junior A Tier II Provincial Championship later this month, where they’ll compete against three other teams for the coveted Mowat Cup.
“It’s a unique experience for sure,” said head coach Derek Stuart.
“We’re proud to be the host and everyone is working extremely hard to put on a great event and the players are starting to get excited as well.”
As the host city, the Dynamiters were guaranteed a spot in the tournament, where they’ll be facing the champions of the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League, Pacific Junior Hockey League and the Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League.
The tournament features a four-team round-robin to determine the winner.
Stuart said being the host has its benefits on the ice.
“For us, it’s pretty normal and it’s a bit of an advantage because the guys get to stay in their billet homes, eat their normal meals and play at their normal 7 p.m. game times,” he added.
“It’s going to be normal games but in a bit of an intensified atmosphere.”
The tournament runs from April 18-21.
