The Cranbrook Community Theatre is celebrating its 60th anniversary in 2024 by honouring and modernizing past plays.
To help mark the occasion, the theatre has opened a call for production teams interested in submitting a play for the 2024/25 season.
“What we want to do this year, is celebrate the past but also look forward to our future,” said Trevor Lundy, Cranbrook Community Theatre production manager. “We will only be accepting production from our artistic teams that come from our archives.”
Lundy said the theatre established a long list of past shows since its founding in 1964.
“We’ve produced over 160 shows in those 60 years. We want to see how we can recognize all that past work, but also bring it into the future,” said Lundy.
The Community Theatre plans to run three productions: one in Oct. 2024, one in Feb. 2025 and another in April/May 2025.
Lundy said the Community Theatre gives residents an opportunity to get involved in the production and performance.
“For 60 years, we’ve had members of our community at every stage of the performance,” said Lundy. “One of the fun things about a Cranbrook Community Theatre show is that you might see your doctor or postman or a high school friend you lost touch with up on that stage.”
People are encouraged to apply in teams, and all experience levels are welcome to try it out.
“Production Teams typically consist of a Director and Producer and teams are strongly encouraged to have both prior to submitting, however, teams without both will still be considered,” said Community Theatre officials. “Mentorship will be provided for inexperienced teams wanting to submit.”
Applications will be accepted until Feb. 16, 2024, and you can find a link below.
