BC Highway Patrol investigating serious July 4 crash

BC Highway Patrol is investigating a collision that halted traffic on Highway 3/93 near Wardner on Tuesday afternoon.

Police said a white pickup had slowed down in the eastbound lane to overtake two bicyclists at around 1:45 p.m.

A semi-truck couldn’t break in time and veered into the westbound lane and hit an SUV.

The passenger of the SUV sustained minor injuries, but the driver was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The semi-truck driver has been cooperating with police as all causal factors are being investigated.

Police haven’t ruled out possible mechanical failure.

BC Highway Patrol is looking to find the driver of the white pickup truck, as well as anyone who may have information or dash cam video of the incident.

Witnesses are asked to call 250-420-4244.
