Coal Miner Days continue with drone show

Coal Miner Days festivities continue into the weekend in Sparwood with a drone show tonight.

Mayor David Wilks says the show is a way to bypass fireworks restrictions.

“We’re really excited about that. I looked it up on the internet and it looks really cool. We had to wait for approval from the federal government to be able to fly that many drones. We got approval on Wednesday.”

Wilks said the festivities won’t end tonight.

“It culminates this weekend obviously with the parade and concert on Saturday night.’

He said it’s good to have it back now that pandemic restrictions have been lifted.

“We’re really looking forward to having the parade back, it’s been four years now and people are excited about that. I’m excited to see everyone get out and enjoy being together again.”

The parade kicks off at 11 a.m. on Saturday.
