Police are still looking for suspects in the theft of a boat and matching trailer worth over $220,000 and are asking the public is asked to keep an eye out.
Elk Valley RCMP officials said the call came in on Sunday shortly before 9 a.m., alleging that the boat was taken from a property along the 1300 block of Cypress Drive in Sparwood.
The caller said the boat, a 2021 black and yellow Mastercraft X26, and a matching tri-axle trailer were stored at a friend’s residence over the winter.
“The boat was wrapped in a blue coloured tarp for protection over the winter, but the trailer would be easily distinguishable considering the unique colour scheme,” said Elk Valley RCMP.
According to the report, it was supposed to be picked up for warranty work by the dealer, and the hitch lock was removed in anticipation.
While the homeowner was working, unknown suspects took the boat from the property.
“Believing it was the dealer making the pick-up, it was not reported stolen for several days until the dealer did come to the location to retrieve the boat,” said police officials.
Police said canvassing the neighbourhood turned up no witnesses or security camera footage.
RCMP are asking anyone in Sparwood Heights around the Cypress Drive area with security cameras to review their footage for any suspicious activity or images of the boat and trailer being removed from the area.
Police are continuing their investigation into the incident.
“Anyone with information, can contact a Police officer at 250-425-6233 or use BC Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS(8477). Please refer to file 2023-1082,” said Elk Valley RCMP.
