Aquatic Centre Opens in Cranbrook Following Roof Repairs

Cranbrook’s Aquatic Centre at Western Financial Place is once again open to the public as of Friday, after being closed for nearly two months while crews completed repairs to the facility’s roof.

The facility was first closed as of September 5, 2019, due to falling debris from the ceiling while crews completed the necessary repairs to the roof, fixing leaks and installing new vapour barriers. The repairs were originally budget at $1.72 million after the winning bid from New Dawn Developments.

Following the majority of construction and repairs, users can now access the Aquatic Centre on Friday, as a public swim is scheduled from 4:00 pm to 9:00 pm to usher in the reopening of the facility. Full programming is set to resume at 9:30 am on Saturday, November 2nd.

“City staff will be contacting parents, patrons and other community groups about start times for swimming lessons and other aquatic programs over the next few days,” said the City of Cranbrook.

With repairs on the Aquatic Centre roof complete, the City will now shift focus to repairing the Arena roof, which is a discussion at budget deliberations for the Five Year Financial Plan.
