Cranbrook cats to require licenses

Cats in Cranbrook will need to be licensed, similar to dogs, following changes to the city’s animal control bylaw.

City officials said the license fees for a spayed or neutered cat is $15 per year or $30 per year for a non-spayed or neutered cat.

Cat owners will be able to purchase an annual license for their pets at city hall.

The amended bylaw means that cats will be treated the same as dogs, and will be considered running-at-large if they are away from their home or not leashed.

“Our bylaw team will be out providing the public with information about these changes to the bylaw through the end of the year,” said Paul Heywood, Manager of Building and Bylaw Services. “We encourage those with cats to license them as soon as possible.”
