Mainroad working to catch up with heavier snowfall than anticipated

Mainroad contractors are working in the region to catch up with Wednesday evening’s snowfall, which ended up being heavier than anticipated.

According to Mainroad officials, the forecast called for three to five centimetres, but snow accumulation ended up between three to 10 centimetres.

Crews were also out before the snowfall event preparing roads with de-icing chemicals.

Mainroad workers will be out plowing and sanding local highways and bus routes on Thursday.

“Just a friendly reminder to move over and slow down when you see a plow truck/sand truck coming towards you. Crews are now in cleanup mode since the snow has stopped,” said Mainroad officials.

Drivers are asked to use caution on local roadways and adjust habits to road conditions.
