Hosmer firefighters extinguish wood stove fire

Hosmer firefighters fought back flames that broke out of a wood-burning unit at a residential property.

“Five pieces of apparatus and five firefighters responded to the call, which came in just after 6 p.m. [on Sunday],” says Elk Valley & South Country Rural Fire & Rescue Chief Michael Hockley. “The homeowner did a good job of knocking down the flames until our team arrived and we remained on scene until all the hot spots were fully extinguished and cooled.”

The fire started from an exterior wood burner and damaged the building, but it was saved and can be repaired.

RDEK staff say the homeowner did a good job knocking back the flames until firefighters arrived.

Nobody was hurt by the fire and the exact cause of the incident is under investigation.

Officials said the fire is not considered suspicious in nature.
