Much of B.C.’s interior is under a snowfall warning for higher elevations, with up to 25 centimetres of snow accumulation in the forecast by Saturday.
However, Environment Canada officials said the East Kootenay and Elk Valley areas have been spared from the worst of the weather for now.
Locally, this will impact Highway 3, from Kootenay Pass to Paulson Summit, the Trans-Canada Highway from Eagle Pass to Rogers Pass, and Yoho National Park.
Officials said an atmospheric river will dump snow along mountain passes and higher elevation areas.
Snowfall is expected to increase in intensity through the day on Friday and into the night, before tapering off to light flurries.
Drivers are reminded to adjust their driving habits with changing road conditions.
Rapidly accumulating snow could make travel difficult over some locations,” said Environment Canada officials. “Weather in the mountains can change suddenly resulting in hazardous driving conditions.”
