Cranbrook prepares for impending snowfall

Winter is coming, and Cranbrook says its public works crews are standing by in case any snow and ice removal is needed.

City officials said its workers have been gearing up for inclement weather.

“All fleet equipment has gone through a rigorous mechanical inspection, and our team has completed their winter maintenance operations training, to ensure we are in the best position to keep the roads safe over the winter months,” said city staff.

Drivers are asked to be aware of the road conditions and adjust their driving accordingly.

You should also make room for maintenance crews and their vehicles.

“Stay well back of any equipment spreading sand or salt, and vehicles should avoid passing any equipment during plowing operations. Slow down and give yourself additional time and space to stop your vehicle and use appropriate winter tires to maximize your ability to navigate the roads safely,” said city staff.

Residents are also reminded to remove snow from any sidewalks in front of their property within 24 hours of a snowfall event.

The city has partnered with the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) Kootenays to help find volunteers for the Snow Angels program.

The program arranges volunteers to help out people who may need assistance with clearing snow.

You can apply online or by contacting the CMHA at 250-426-5222 or emailing [email protected].
