Windermere Legion donates $5,000 to Columbia Valley Search and Rescue

Windermere District Legion Branch #71 has donated $5,000 to help replace some of the Columbia Valley Search and Rescue’s (CVSAR) aging equipment.

CVSAR officials said this donation is part of their first annual fundraising campaign.

“The time has come to replace two 4×4 trucks and purchase an ATV,” said Scott Chaffey, President of CVSAR. “This equipment will go a long way to improving our incident response; increasing a victim’s chance of survival and ensuring the safety of our rescue team.”

The CVSAR has passed its $70,000 goal for the fundraiser, but the organization welcomes additional donations.

“We’re already starting to plan for next year because, as you can imagine, we’re constantly upgrading our equipment,” said Nancy Loraas, CVSAR treasurer and search manager. “Given the nature of the work that we do, there’s always a need for ongoing funding.”

Loraas passed her thanks to the Legion for their support.

“They are just an imaging organization and I would add that they’re some of the unsung heroes of our community,” said Loraas.
