Mike Peabody has been re-elected to Cranbrook City council with 3,181 votes coming in second for total votes.
“I’m very excited and of course, I have to thank everyone that came out and voted,” said Peabody.
Peabody was first elected to council during a by-election in 2017 and started his first full term in 2018.
Peabody will be working with a new mayor this time around after Wayne Price beat out Lee Pratt.
“I like Lee and I like Wayne. I was very torn on who to vote for in this election. They both bring strengths to the table and no matter what the turnout was I’d be happy to work with them.”
He said the community needs to work together to solve the major issues going on.
“We need to somehow come together as a community and start helping our vulnerable population and the people suffering from the opioid crisis or mental health and get them into homes and the help they need.”
Peabody said the issues aren’t just affecting Cranbrook.
“The challenges we’re facing are nationwide and I think what we’re going to have to do is not just look at this as a municipal government issue or a provincial government issue, it’s a community issue.”
Peabody earned 71 per cent of the vote on Saturday night, only newcomer Lynnette Wary had more. A candidate Peabody is excited to work with.
“Big congratulations to Lynnette. She campaigned really hard and honestly I’m really excited to be working with her.”
Incumbents Norma Blissett, Ron Popoff, Wesly Graham and former mayor Wayne Stetski were also elected.
