The Community Foundation of the Kootenay Rockies has received a sizeable donation to fund grant programs in various communities.
North Coal Limited has donated $5,000 to each local Community Fund in Elkford, Sparwood, and Fernie.
“This program speaks to sustainability and long-term planning, things that North Coal values,” said John Pumphrey, president of North Coal. “The local steering committees understand local needs and can assist
where needed.”
North Coal said the CFKR Community Funds provide grants for local organizations, covering a broad range of initiatives including animal welfare, arts, education, mental health and addictions, among other topics.
According to a release, CFKR was established in 2016, with the intent of having permanent investment endowment funds. The money will be used annually to provide grants to local non-profits.
“The Community Funds in Elkford, Sparwood, and Fernie each total over $100,000 and will each grant approximately $3,000 to local non-profits in their communities in 2020,” Lynnette Wray, CFKR Executive
Director explained.
North Coal said the grant applications open to organizations in Fernie, Sparwood and Elkford on January 1, 2020, and can be found here.
