The Conservative Party has declared victory in the 2019 federal election, ousting incumbent NDP candidate Wayne Stetski.
Stetski took his seat in the riding in 2015, which had been a Conservative stronghold for 21 years before his victory.
As of the 2019 election, Kootenay-Columbia has switched back to blue after just one term under the wing of the NDP.
Stetski commended the work his party put into his stint as the MP for Kootenay-Columbia.
“We’ve had 4 years of, I think, a different approach. We worked really hard, we’ve helped hundreds of people across the riding,” Stetski said. “One of the things I really hope is that the people of Kootenay-Columbia continue to get the high-quality level of service that they’ve had for the last four years.”
In the coming weeks, Stetski and his team will be moving out of his Ottawa apartment and various offices in Ottawa, Nelson, and Cranbrook.
“Potentially it’s a very, very busy period of time coming up for the next three weeks, and then we’ll see what life holds after that,” said Stetski.
Steski offered his congratulations to Conservative candidate winner Rob Morrison.
